Montlobre
Boasting a history spanning back over 300 years, Domaine Montlobre has long been a farming settlement.
It has witnessed many a boy working the land and making the estate’s first wines. We now pay homage to them by growing Merlot.
Located in the Mosson Valley in Vailhauquès and facing South-East, the soils stem from alluvial deposits dating back to the Quaternary period over sandy-textured marl interspersed with Eocene sandstone layers.
The cool valley temperatures allow the Merlot to ripen slowly and reach peak ripeness, promoting substantial aromatic complexity. The red soils are fertile and rich in calcium, iron and other minerals, providing nourishment for Montlobre vines.
Some vineyard blocks climb up over the surrounding garrigue where Merlot rules the roost. .
Many years ago, Domaine Montlobre was a settlement known as the Colonie de Montlobre welcoming boys aged 7 to 20 and offering them peace, hard work and happiness. The present-day facilities house the estate's barrel cellar in their majestic old chapel.
